What the trustpilot tracker is

My grade comes from my own tests. Trustpilot is the other side: what paying users say after weeks of use, including the complaints a short test cannot reach. The tracker keeps one reading a month, so a review can show the score on the day it was written and how it has moved since.

Runs on: A script on my PC, or a reading by hand when Trustpilot blocks it. Manus: Trustpilot blocks automated reads, so the monthly figure is read by hand.

How it works

  1. Once a month it requests the agent's Trustpilot profile page with a plain, named request that says who is asking.
  2. If Trustpilot answers with a block, a rate limit or a bot check, the attempt is recorded as blocked and the script stops. It never tries to get past the check.
  3. When the page is served, it reads the score and review count from the page's structured data and the one-to-five star split from the page's own figures.
  4. When the script is blocked, I open the profile in a browser and type the same figures in with the date and a note of what the page showed. A reading by hand replaces a blocked attempt for that month, and a blocked attempt never replaces a good reading.
  5. The readings feed the review's Trustpilot sentence and the complaints chart, and the methodology's history chart draws the score and the review count month by month.

What it records

Per month
Month, date read, whether the script or a person read it, the score, the number of reviews and the share of each star rating.
Attempts
The last attempt and its result, including a block, so the page can say why a month was read by hand.

What it holds today

Read from the monitor’s data file when this page was built. Every reviewed agent is added when its review is made.

What it cannot catch

  • Trustpilot blocks automated reads of its pages, so the monthly figure is usually read by hand, and the daily health check reminds me after the fifth of the month when a reading is missing.
  • The star split is the rounded percentages Trustpilot shows; a share under one percent is kept as under one percent.
  • One reading is a point, not a trend. The history chart only says something once a few months are in.
  • A Trustpilot profile can be unclaimed, filtered or targeted by a campaign. The score is reported with its review count and read beside my own test, never instead of it.
