What SerpApi is
SerpApi requests a search results page in real time and returns it parsed into structured data. I choose the engine, the country, the language and the device, and get back what a person in that place would have seen at that moment: the organic results, the AI Overview, the news, the autocomplete suggestions, the YouTube results and the transcript of a video.
For every category it supplies the Google Trends series for the category's own search. For AI girlfriend, the first category, it also fetched the videos, news and threads about each brand, which I read in full; the other categories carry the measured figures only.
Why it can be relied on
- It returns the live page rather than a cached model of it, so what I quote is what the engine served, with the parameters recorded.
- Results are parsed into documented fields, so the same request can be repeated next month and compared with the last one.
- Because every call is a real request with a real location and device, United States results can be separated from worldwide ones instead of assuming they match.
What is taken from it
- Google Trends
- Five years of relative interest in each category's search, worldwide and in the United States, plus interest by country and the queries rising next to it.
- YouTube and transcripts (AI girlfriend)
- The most-watched videos about each brand, their view counts, and the full transcript of each one, which is what the video summaries are written from.
- Google News (AI girlfriend)
- Press coverage about a brand in the last twelve months, which I then read in full and classify.
- Google's AI Overview and autocomplete (AI girlfriend)
- What Google's own summary says about a brand, and the searches people type next to its name, which is often where the complaints show up first.
- Thread discovery (AI girlfriend)
- Finding the Reddit threads Google surfaces for a brand, which I then read directly.
What it cannot tell me
- A search result is a snapshot. Rankings move daily, so every check is dated and the monthly keyword data is preferred for anything treated as a trend.
- Google Trends is a relative index from 0 to 100, not a count of searches. It shows shape, not size.
- Not every video has a transcript. Where one is missing the video is left out of the analysis rather than guessed at from the title.
