AI tools grew 9.5%. Without ChatGPT, they shrank.

Every AI tool category, October 2026: one chatbot added more visits than the whole market did.

Written by Miles Foster, Owner and tester, RankDude. / 2 min read

RankDude data shows AI tool sites got about 3.83 billion visits from Google in October. That's up 9.5% in a year, but ChatGPT alone added about 700 million. So without it, the rest went backwards, and some fell hard.

The short version

  • +9.5%: all AI tool visits from Google in a year.
  • ChatGPT: added about 700 million visits in a year.
  • 331 million: what the whole market added in a year.
  • -40.4%: AI music tools, the hardest yearly fall.

A dip, not a drop

In September, AI tool sites got about 3.95 billion visits from Google.

In October, they got about 3.83 billion. That's a small step down.

But zoom out. A year ago, the total was about 3.50 billion.

So the market grew 9.5% in a year. My top month is still December 2024, at about 4.07 billion.

So who is doing all the growing?

The giant in the room

ChatGPT got about 919 million visits from Google in October.

That's almost a quarter of everything (919 million out of 3.83 billion).

A year ago, it got about 219 million. That's up 319.9%.

The big jump came in August. It leapt from about 475 million to about 861 million.

Here's the twist. ChatGPT added about 700 million visits in a year (919 million minus 219 million).

The whole market added only about 331 million (3.83 billion minus 3.50 billion).

So without ChatGPT, the rest shrank. Who fell?

Old names, fading

DeepL Write fell 33.3% in a year, to about 218 million.

October hurt most. It had about 288 million in September.

Booking.com fell 30.9% in a year. Adobe fell 16.1%.

Then there's Magnific. A year ago, it had just 67 visits.

Now it gets about 116 million. An older Magnific listing on Freepik fell 99.5% in a year.

My guess? The tool moved house. So which categories won?

Who's up, who's down

You can browse every category in my statistics lobby.

AI recruiting tools grew the most, up 290% in a year.

AI assistants rose 217.6%. That's wild.

AI tools for education rose 178.9%.

AI writing tools are still the most visited, with about 1.56 billion visits.

On the other side, AI music tools fell 40.4% in a year.

They also lost 10.4% in October alone.

AI video tools fell 26.1% in a year. But tiny sites had the wildest ride.

Tiny rockets

Camb.ai grew 33101.8% in a year, to about 5.54 million visits.

AskMath grew 23270.5%, to about 457,000.

On the way down, ChatBot.com lost 99.9% of its visits.

How I measured this

I add up estimated visits from Google for every AI tool site I track.

Each site counts once, even if it sits in many categories. My methodology explains more.
