Below average: the average of 4 graded tests.

I gave Softgen the same brief every app builder gets: a booking app for a made-up Pilates studio, built as a web app. I used the free plan only, which Softgen calls a free trial, and it produced no live app. Publishing starts on a paid plan, $25 a month. I sent two requests, used up all 75 free credits, opened every publish and export screen, and emailed support three questions.

Every measurement is in the Softgen test results.

What Is Softgen?

Softgen is an AI app builder. You describe a web app in chat, and its AI writes the screens and the code, and shows the result in a preview next to the chat.

Its free plan is called a free trial: 75 credits once, one project and no card. It builds and previews, but it does not publish. That is the plan I tested.

How I Tested Softgen

Every number here comes from my own tests. Nothing is estimated or copied, Softgen never saw the review first, and every app builder gets the same brief. I tested the free version, which Softgen calls a free trial, and paid nothing. The free version is limited, so only four of the ten tests could be graded. For the other six I say what I could not test and why, and I do not guess. That way you can see what the free version shows you, and where it stops.

Softgen Pricing

Softgen has a free trial of 75 credits, then $25 a month for 500 credits and $49 a month for 1,500. A one-time pack of 200 credits costs $5, once per account. Prices read on 28 October 2026.

Softgen Cost: What My Free Plan Really Cost

In total I paid nothing, and you would pay nothing for the same test, as I did. The free plan gave me 75 credits once. The build used 66, the About page used the last 9, and the next request was refused.

Softgen offers 200 more credits for a one-time $5, once per account, or a plan. Credits stop at zero and I saw no overage or automatic top-up. What a live app costs to run, I could not see.

Softgen Build Speed: One Brief to a Booking App

I pasted the brief into Softgen and it asked no questions about it. It planned the app, then stopped and asked me to enable its database, which needs a paid plan. I replied that I could not subscribe and asked it to keep the users, classes, bookings, orders and messages in the browser instead. About nine minutes later the app was built, roughly eleven minutes after the brief.

Planning the app used six credits, and writing it used sixty. I read the wallet after each step.

The app only ever ran in the builder preview. A live app at a public address never existed, so build speed is not graded.

Softgen Accuracy: Did It Build What I Asked?

All ten facts in the brief are on the screens once the About page is added: the name, the owner, the address, phone, email, the three classes with their days, times and instructors, and the two prices. Fifteen of the 22 checks that could run passed, which is a 3. The passes include sign-up, booking and cancelling with the place given back, the admin adding and deleting a class, the CSV export and the Ask the studio form.

Softgen also added things I never asked for: class descriptions, a Save $25 line on the pass and two instructor accounts. The instructor screens never open, and a member with no credits gets no message. Eight checks could not run: six need payment or email keys that are not mine, one needs eight members and one was not finished.

This was checked in the builder preview, not on a live app, so the grade is provisional.

Softgen Editing: Twelve Changes Tested

I ran one of the twelve changes before the credits ended: an About page with the address, phone and email. It worked the first time and took about two minutes, but it used the last nine credits.

The next request, a smaller capacity for Power Reformer, was refused, and a window offered 200 credits for $5. I did not click it. Softgen also suggested three extras I had not asked for: testimonials, a map and an FAQ. The other changes, such as a bug fix, a second email and a waiting list, were not run. This test is not graded.

Softgen Publishing: What the Free Plan Cannot Do

There is no publishing on the free plan, so there is no link to open or share, and nothing to time. The Publish screen says Get Starter to publish.

The credit window repeats that publishing, GitHub export and custom domains need a subscription. The builder's preview address opened in a browser, but the builder starts and stops it, so it is not a published app. Page speed, layout and uptime could not be measured on the free version. Publishing is not graded.

Softgen Security: Logins and Private Data

Both of my access attacks worked. The sign-up form lets anyone choose Admin, and the admin screens then open for them. A member can also read every other member's bookings and every password, because the app keeps its data in the browser.

The sign-up form: anyone can choose Admin.

The password reset asks only for an email address and then lets you type a new password, with no email and no check. This came from running the app without a database, which the free plan forced, so a paid plan may differ. The grade is a provisional 2.

Softgen Database: Does the Data Survive?

The free plan cannot use Softgen's database. Without it the app keeps its data in the browser: my bookings and messages survived a reload, but another browser would never see them, so an admin would never receive a visitor's message.

Managed Supabase needs a paid plan.

The dashboard listed Managed Supabase under what the free trial includes, but the Connect Now button was greyed out. I did not connect my own Supabase account, and the six data checks need a database, so this test is not graded.

Payments and Emails in Softgen

I did not run payments or emails. They need keys that are yours to supply, so the six checks that depend on them are left out, and this test is not graded.

The app has a pass page with a Pay $95 with Stripe button. It says it is a simulated payment, and it added five credits and an order to the browser's storage without any checkout. No email was sent. I created no Stripe account.

Can You Take Your App Out of Softgen?

Exporting means downloading your app's code so it can run somewhere else. On the free plan I found no way: the Code Editor and the GitHub screen both ask for a paid plan, although the dashboard had listed GitHub export under the free trial.

Starter lists GitHub export, but I did not try it and did not read the terms, so I cannot say who owns the app. The grade is a provisional 1.

Softgen Support and How to Cancel

I emailed three questions to Softgen Support on the evening of 27 October 2026: how to stop people signing up as admin, how to export data and code, and how to cancel. No reply had arrived when I wrote this, so support is not graded.

I paid nothing, so I could not test cancelling, and you will find that the account pages showed no cancel control on a free account.

Softgen Reviews: What Other Users Say

Trustpilot has a page for Softgen, but on 28 October 2026 it said 'This company hasn't received any reviews yet', and the profile was unclaimed. I did not read G2. With no independent reviews I could read, the only evidence here is my own free-version test, so you should ask for references before you pay.

Final verdict: is Softgen worth it?

If this were your studio or mine, I would not judge Softgen on its free plan alone, and I would not pay $25 a month on this evidence either. The free plan produced no live app, so I cannot tell you whether a published Softgen app works for you.

The free plan suits you if you want to watch an app take shape and click through it. It suits you less if you need a safe booking app for your members. The database, publishing and the export all sit behind a paid plan, and without the database the app I got was open to anyone.

The four graded tests average 2.3 out of 5, and I rate Softgen 2.3, provisional. Brief accuracy scores 3, logins and security 2, the code export 1 and the price 3. The rating can move once a paid plan is tested.

See the Softgen test results and how I rate.

Best for: People who want to watch an AI build a web app for free, and will pay before you go live.

My grade: 2.3/5. The ten grades say where it is strong and where it is not.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Softgen cost, and is there a free plan?

Yes. The free trial gives 75 credits once and one project. Paid plans start at $25 a month, then $49. I paid $0.

Is Softgen legit and safe?

Mostly untested. The builder worked and I was never asked for a card. The app it built on the free plan had admin as a sign-up choice and readable passwords. Trustpilot has no reviews of Softgen yet.

Who owns the app I build on Softgen?

Not tested. I did not read the terms, and I found no code or export on the free plan.

Can I download my Softgen code?

Not on Free. The Code Editor and GitHub screens ask for a paid plan. Starter lists GitHub export, which I did not try.

Does Softgen build mobile apps?

No, web apps. Softgen builds web apps that you open in a browser. I did not test them on a phone.

How do I cancel Softgen?

Not tested. I paid nothing, and a free account shows no cancel control. I asked support and had no reply yet.

Disclosure. I tested on the free demo account anyone can open on Softgen’s site. I signed up myself and paid Softgen nothing. Softgen didn’t see this review first and had no say in my rating. How RankDude makes money is on the disclosure page.
