Every month I measure Google visits to the 21 AI coding assistant sites I track, and how often people search for them by name. In October 2026 they got about 253 million visits, 49% more than a year ago and 5% more than in September 2026.

AI coding assistant market: the key numbers for October 2026

  • The tracked sites got 253,405,410 visits from Google in October 2026, 49% more than a year ago and 5% more than in September 2026. OpenAI Codex, which takes 97.4% of all the visits, accounts for most of the rise (100% of it). Without it, visits would be down 0.2% on a year ago instead of up 49.0%. OpenAI Codex made most of the move in October 2026: it gained 11,499,705 of the market's 12,184,575 visits; without it, visits to the other sites rose 11.6% on September 2026.
  • “ai coding assistant” gets about 14,800 US searches a month. People searched the site names 1,537,440 times in the US in September 2026, 15% less often than in October 2025.

2How many people went looking

People typed a site’s name into Google 15% less often than in October 2025 (-15%). That is the loyalty number, because nobody types a name by accident.

The US is the single biggest market, but only about 8 in every 100 visits. India alone is 79.4% of the countries I measure outside it.
