Miles FosterOwner and tester, RankDude

Every month I measure 21 AI coding assistant sites with data from DataForSEO, Google Trends, Tranco and Ahrefs. They are the sites that rank on Google for "ai coding assistant" plus the most-visited AI coding assistant sites overall. In October 2026 they got about 253 million visits from Google, 49% more than a year ago.

Market demand

1Is the AI coding assistant market growing in 2026?

Neither growing nor shrinking, but visits are up 36% over the last six months.

Over two years, visits went from 81M in November 2024 to a high of 253M in October 2026, and stand at 253M in October 2026. Much of the year’s change is one site, OpenAI Codex, which is why I also look at the market without it.

Miles explains

I only call a market growing when visits and name searches agree. Here visits are level and name searches are down, so they don’t agree yet.

Monthly analysis

3What changed in the AI coding assistant market in October 2026?

More visits than a year ago only because of OpenAI Codex, but fewer people searching by name, and the next six months look like growth.

The fastest growers over the year, OpenCode, Kiro and CodeGPT, grew fastest, mostly from a smaller base. The losers, led by Tabby, lost most of their search visits (-79%).

Miles explains

Huge percentages like OpenCode’s +6037% usually mean one site won a big Google ranking from a small start. I watch whether it holds the next month.

Monthly forecast

4What happens next for AI coding assistants?

I expect November 2026 to be about the same as October 2026, and the next six months to look up.

The forecast carries the level of recent months forward, not the trend line, because that version missed least when tested on past months. November is usually a quieter month than average for searches, but the calendar did not improve the forecast, so it is left out.

6Can I download the AI coding assistant data?

Yes. Every number on these pages comes from two CSV files, free to download.

sites.csv has one row per site: its Google US position for “ai coding assistant”, Tranco rank, Chrome UX tier, visits from Google worldwide and in the US, name searches, Domain Rating and referring domains, with the month each figure covers. market.csv has the monthly totals across the tracked sites: visits worldwide and in the US, name searches and referring domains. Blanks mean the source had no figure, never zero.
