Wix bought a tiny app. It grew 44 times in a year.

While Base44 boomed, website builders sank to a two-year low, and even Wix kept shrinking.

A year ago, Base44 got about 8,700 visits a month from Google. In September 2026 it got about 389,000, RankDude data shows. Here's the twist: the company that owns it is losing visits fast.

The short version

  • 44x: Base44's growth in visits from Google in a year.
  • +491%: v0, another app builder, also shot up.
  • -25.5%: the whole market fell to a two-year low.
  • Wix owns Base44, yet its own site keeps shrinking.

The app that never stopped

Base44 builds an app or a website from a request you type. A year ago, hardly anyone found it on Google.

Now it gets about 44 times as many visits. That's a rise of 4,347%.

The climb never paused. Visits went up every month for a full year.

It is now the seventh most visited site in the group. Only Framer sits just ahead, at about 410,000.

So who is behind it? You might be surprised.

The owner in the shadows

Base44 is not an outsider. Wix bought it in June 2025, Globes reported.

Wix paid an initial $80 million, plus more later if targets are met. Base44 kept running as its own product.

A market in a slump

Add up the AI website builder sites I follow. Google sent them about 15.7 million visits in September.

That's down 25.5% on a year ago. It's the lowest month in my two years of data.

Back in October 2024, the peak was about 34.4 million. So the market now gets less than half of that.

In the United States, the yearly fall was even steeper, at 31.4%.

Some names fell hard. 10Web dropped about 77%, and Divi fell about 62%.

The other risers

Base44 is not alone. v0 grew 491% in a year to about 290,000 visits.

But v0 also slipped 30.1% from August. That's a bumpy ride.

Lovable rose to about 666,000 visits and is now fourth. See it all on the AI website builder statistics page.

So what about the two giants at the top?

Giants losing ground

Wix got about 5.5 million visits from Google in September. Squarespace got about 5.35 million.

Together, that's about 10.8 million of the 15.7 million. The top five sites take 81.6%.

But both are shrinking. Wix fell from about 7.1 million in October 2025. Squarespace fell from about 7.9 million.

Squarespace even dropped 11.4% in September alone. Ouch.

People know the name

In the US, people searched for Squarespace about 673,000 times a month. Wix got 550,000 searches.

Base44 came third, with 368,000. Not bad for an app few knew a year ago.

My guess is that some people now skip site builders and go straight to app builders. Wix owns one of each.

Still, Wix's main site lost about 1.6 million monthly visits since October 2025. Base44 gained only about 370,000. That gap is huge.

“Website builders are fading. The growth now belongs to apps you build by typing.”

How I measured this

These are DataForSEO estimates of visits from Google, worldwide unless stated, not a count of people. Name searches are monthly US Google searches from Google Ads data. More in my methodology and on how I use DataForSEO.
