Wix Review: Features, Pricing & My Test Results
By Miles Foster, Owner and tester, RankDude. Tested 21 October 2026, published 21 October 2026.

My rating
A complete site and shop, with an editor that can do anything.
Small businesses that want everything in one place.
Based on 10 graded tests and my verdict. How I rate
Wix builds a website from a chat with its AI, then gives you a full editor, hosting, a domain and a shop. I tested it hands-on: I built three sites from three fixed briefs, checked 60 facts on them, did 12 editing tasks, ran 15 speed tests, checked 12 SEO points, placed a test order and asked support three questions. Everything I measured is in the Wix test results.
The short version: the tools are excellent, and support answers in about a minute. But the AI makes things up, and the pages are slow.
My rating is 3.6 out of 5.
Quick verdict
Biggest strengths
- All 12 edits worked
- Shop, blog and domain all work
- Support in about a minute
- Polished designs
Biggest weaknesses
- AI makes up facts
- Slow pages
- Can't move your site
- Core doubles after year one
Best for: Small businesses that want a site and a shop in one place, and will check every word the AI writes.
How I tested
I tested Wix myself on 21 October 2026. I bought one month of the Core plan for the shop site at the public price, and built the café and photographer sites on the free plan.
Every number in this review comes from my own tests and my own monitors. Nothing is estimated, copied from Wix or taken from another review, and Wix never saw it before it went live.
All three test sites are hidden from search engines while they're tested, and my monitors keep measuring them for 30 days.
Every number and screenshot is in the full test results.

What Is Wix?
Wix is one of the best-known website builders. You describe your business in a chat, its AI builds a first draft, and then you edit everything in a drag-and-drop editor.
Hosting, free HTTPS, a shop, a blog, bookings, forms and email marketing all live in one dashboard. There's a free plan, and paid plans start at $17 a month.

What I think
To use your own domain without Wix's banner, the cheapest plan is Light: about $204 a year. Light can't sell, so a shop needs Core.
Core looks cheaper at $14.50 a month, but that's a 50% first-year discount. From year two it's about $348 a year, so two years cost about $522.
Monthly billing costs more and drops the free domain. There's a 14-day money-back guarantee.

My Live Wix Tests: Uptime and Prices
I don't just test Wix once. My monitors keep watching it, and these charts update on their own.
Uptime is checked every five minutes, on wix.com, the Wix sign-in page and my three test sites, from 21 October to 21 November 2026.

The Tools Behind This Review
I built my own tools to test Wix, so every result can be checked. Here's what each one does, how it works and when it last ran.
How I measured Wix
Uptime monitor
What it does: Checks wix.com, the Wix sign-in page and my three Wix test sites.
How: Every 5 minutes, from one fixed location. A page is down if it doesn't answer in 20 seconds or returns an error, and every failure is checked again before it counts.
Last update: 21 Oct 2026, 14:30 UTC
Live Wix uptime →Price tracker
What it does: Reads Wix's US pricing page and records every plan and price.
How: Every day, from a browser in the United States. A change is logged only when a dollar amount changes.
Last update: 21 Oct 2026, 14:32 UTC
Wix price tracker →Fact check
What it does: Checks whether the sites Wix's AI built match the brief I gave it.
How: Three fixed briefs with 20 facts each, the same for every builder. Every page of each live site was read and each fact marked right, missing or wrong.
Run on: 21 Oct 2026
The 60 facts →Design and SEO checker
What it does: Looks for layout faults and checks 12 SEO basics on every page.
How: 19 pages at phone, tablet and desktop width, with a contrast check, plus the published HTML, robots.txt and redirects.
Run on: 21 Oct 2026
Design results →Page speed tests
What it does: Measures how fast the test sites load on a phone.
How: Google's Lighthouse mobile test, three runs on each of five pages, 15 runs in all.
Run on: 21 Oct 2026
Speed results →Fixed task lists
What it does: The same 12 editing tasks, 12 hosting and shop checks and 3 support questions for every builder.
How: Each task timed and marked done or not, with screenshots, including a real test order and a real form message.
Run on: 21 Oct 2026

Building a Site with Wix's AI
- Time to a live site
- 4/5Good
- Sticking to my facts
- 1/5Poor
How fast it is
I pasted each brief into the AI chat. It asked four or five short questions, then built the design in 3 to 4 minutes. The shop was live in about 10.5 minutes and the café in about 6.5.
Time from brief to a live site
- Café6.5 min
- Ceramics shop10.5 min
- Photographerone failed try20 min
The photographer site failed the first time: after 13 minutes Wix said "Site couldn't be completed". The second try worked, for about 20 minutes in total.
What it got wrong
This is the big problem. Each brief had 20 facts, like prices, the address and opening hours. Wix got only about 13 of the 60 right.
Facts from my brief that were right on the site
Ceramics shop8 of 20 right
Photographer3 of 20 right
Café2 of 20 right
- Right
- Missing or wrong
Worse, it made things up. The café got two fake addresses, in New York and California, with wrong hours and fake phone numbers. The shop got six products I never gave it and "worldwide shipping", although I said US only.
The photographer site got three customer testimonials that nobody wrote, although the brief said not to add any. It also said "Booking for Fall 2024", a season that's over.
So treat the AI draft as a design, not a finished site, and check every word. More in the build test results.
Design on Phones and Desktops
- Design on phones and desktops
- 1/5Poor
The designs look polished and fit each business: a dark, calm shop, a warm café and a moody Austin skyline for the photographer. Nothing scrolled sideways and all text was easy to read.
But I counted 21 faults. Most are buttons that are too small to tap easily, like the row of social icons. The café kept a placeholder "LOGO" box and listed "Menus" twice, and the photographer's logo text overlaps itself.

Editing Your Wix Site
- Editing
- 5/5Excellent
This is where Wix shines. I did 12 fixed editing tasks, from changing the font everywhere to adding custom code. All 12 worked, and most took under a minute.
Minutes per editing task
- Move a section19 s
- Duplicate a section22 s
- Site-wide colours22 s
- AI rewrite of a section36 s
- Site-wide font37 s
- Add a page38 s
- Phone-only layout51 s
- Change a button link1.5 min
- Add a form field2.1 min
- Replace an image2.2 min
- Embed custom code3.6 min
You can even change the phone layout without touching the desktop one. Embedding code was the only step that wasn't obvious: you have to double-click the box.
I did find one AI slip here too. The "Read More" button it made linked to the section it was already in, so it went nowhere.

Page Speed and SEO
- Page speed
- 3/5Average
- SEO basics
- 4/5Good
Speed
Across 15 tests the pages scored about 72 out of 100. The main content took about 8 seconds to appear on a phone connection, and over 20 seconds on two runs of the shop's home page.

Seconds until the main content shows
- Café, home7.5 s
- Shop, product page7.7 s

I keep measuring speed every day for 30 days, and uptime every five minutes on the Wix uptime monitor. Prices are checked daily on the Wix price tracker.
SEO
Wix has the SEO tools you need: titles, descriptions, alt text, a robots.txt editor, structured data and redirects that work in seconds. It met 10 of my 12 points.
But the AI wrote no meta descriptions on any page and left most photos without alt text. You'll have to add those yourself.

Domain, Blog and Shop
- Domain, blog and shop
- 5/5Excellent
Everything I tried worked. My own domain was live with HTTPS in about 40 minutes, although Wix said it could take 48 hours. A form message reached my inbox in about a minute.
The blog app wrote a full, readable post with AI in under 45 seconds. Adding the blog failed once with a Wix error, then worked.
I placed a test order on the shop and it went through cleanly. Tax, shipping, variants, digital products, bookings and visitor stats are all there.

Can You Take Your Site With You?
- Taking your site with you
- 3/5Average
Not really. Wix says its system "does not support external hosting", so the site only runs on Wix. Blog posts can't be exported either.
You can export your products and form messages to a spreadsheet, and a domain you bought elsewhere stays yours. Wix's terms say you own your content, but you give Wix a broad licence to use it.
More in the ownership test results.
Wix Help and Support
- Help and support
- 5/5Excellent
Support was excellent. Wix's AI helper started answering all three of my questions in about a second, and every answer was right.
When I asked for a person, a Wix expert joined the live chat in about a minute and walked me through each step with screenshots.

Final verdict: is Wix worth using?
Wix is a complete, reliable platform. The editor can do anything I asked, the shop and blog work, and support is fast and right.
Its AI is the weak spot. It gives you a good-looking draft in about 10 minutes, but most of the facts are wrong or made up, so you must check every page. The sites are also slow, and you can't take them elsewhere.
My rating is 3.6 out of 5. See the full Wix test results, and how I rate AI website builders.
Best for: Small businesses that want a site and a shop in one place, and will check every word the AI writes.
My rating: 3.6/5, from a test score of 3.4/5. The ten grades say where it is strong and where it is not.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wix's AI website builder free?
Yes, you can build and publish a site for free, but it shows a "Built on Wix" banner and uses a Wix address. Your own domain needs a paid plan, from about $204 a year.
Can I trust the text Wix's AI writes?
No. In my test it got only about 13 of 60 facts right and invented addresses, products and customer testimonials. Check every page before you publish.
Can I move my Wix site to another host?
No. A Wix site only runs on Wix. You can export products and form messages, but not the site itself or blog posts.
How fast does Wix connect a custom domain?
Mine was live with HTTPS in about 40 minutes, although Wix said it could take up to 48 hours.
