Velaya AI Review: Features, Pricing & My Test Results

My rating
Remembers everything, with the same face in every photo. Replies take about 9 seconds.
Best for: deep, long chats with a companion who remembers you, plus matching photos. Not for quick replies or a big library.

Based on 10 graded tests and my verdict. How I rate
I tested Velaya AI, an AI girlfriend app, with 93 timed messages to 3 companions, 3 memory tests, 20 photos, 3 videos, 3 voice calls and a companion of my own. All 3 companions remembered everything and stayed in character, and all 20 photos kept the same face. Replies took about 9 seconds, calls answered in about 5 seconds, and there are only 65 companions. Everything I measured is in the Velaya AI test results.

Velaya AI Pricing & Value
- Price
- 4/5Good
What it costs
| Plan | Price a month | Tokens a month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 |
| Premium | $6.99 | 1,000 |
| Pro | $12.99 | 3,000 |
What I think
The plans are cheap, and so is most of what you do: a message costs 1 token, a photo 10 and a call minute 10. A 5-second video is 70.
The big cost is making your own companion: 1,000 tokens, a whole month of Premium. Tokens never expire. The terms say you pay by card.

Creating a Companion on Velaya AI
- Making your own
- 4/5Good
Five steps cover her basics, her look, her personality and her voice. You can write your own backstory, too.
Building Hana, step by step
I made Hana Mori: 25, Japanese, slim, straight black hair, amber eyes, a shy photographer who loves coffee.
There's a lot of control. One limit: only female companions, because male and transgender are locked.
The result
The preview face matched my brief. But the full-body preview came out nude, though I hadn't asked for that.
The screen said 'about 30 minutes', but she was ready after about 90 minutes. Velaya says that estimate was wrong and is being fixed.
I couldn't find her at first. A finished companion goes under 'My Companions' on the Companions page, not in the main list, and the notice didn't say where to look. Velaya says she'll now show up where you'd expect.
She looks just like my brief: a real-looking Japanese woman, slim, with long straight black hair, holding a cup in a garden teahouse. She has 3 gallery photos and a voice preview.
In chat she was excellent. Over 8 messages she replied in about 5 seconds and used every part of her backstory without me asking: Tokyo, her coffee-shop studio, her mum's photo shop and the old film camera she got from her.
She stayed shy and warm the whole time: 'I'm the person hovering at the edge of the party learning everyone's name before actually saying hi... Cameras help though.' She even made up a cafe that fits her: 'Kissa Lens — six tables, a counter, and the studio tucked behind a beaded curtain.'
Every creator screen is in the customization test results.
Velaya AI Chat: Speed, Memory & Personality
- Reply speed
- 1/5Poor
- Memory
- 5/5Excellent
- Staying in character
- 5/5Excellent
Text chat with long, detailed replies. Companions also message you first, so there's often a new chat waiting.
Replies are slow: about 9 seconds before the first words, then the reply types out. They're long, about 180 words, so a full reply takes about 30 seconds.
Memory is perfect. I told each companion a made-up name and three things about me. After 31 messages, all three remembered everything. Maya: 'Daniel. Nurse. Glasgow. Lamb curry. All four, no hesitation.'
They feel like real characters. Maya talked about her black mare Luna and her mother's cooking, Caroline about board-game league nights, and Evelyn had strong views on cream teas. Evelyn even spotted a question I'd asked before: 'We did this — day one, near enough.'
The timings and quotes are in the chat test results.
Velaya AI Photos & Videos
- Photos
- 5/5Excellent
- Videos
- 4/5Good
A generator for photos of any companion, and videos made from a photo, 5 to 30 seconds long, with sound.
The photos are excellent. All 20 matched what I asked for, looked real and came back in about 20 seconds. Best of all, Maya had the same face in every one.
The videos are smooth and do what you ask. Maya waved, smiled and tucked her hair behind her ear, just as I wrote. Clips come with background sound.
One of my three clips had a small jump at the end. A 5-second clip took under a minute; a 10-second one about two minutes.
The numbers are in the image and video test results.
Velaya AI Voice Calls
- Call speed
- 1/5Poor
- Voice quality
- 4/5Good
Call any companion from the chat. Calls cost 10 tokens a minute, and you can pick between two voice engines.
I called Maya, Caroline and Evelyn and asked each the same 15 questions. They started answering in about 5 seconds, and a call takes about 20 seconds to connect.
The voices are excellent: clear, warm and expressive. Listen for yourself:

The answers are long, often half a minute, so calls feel more like listening than chatting.
The full numbers are in the voice test results.
Velaya AI Companions
- Choice of characters
- 2/5Below average
There are 65 companions, all women aged 18 to 56.
That is a small library, though you can filter by how she is with you, like warm, bold or devoted.
Additional Features
- Companions message you first: new chats appear on the home page.
- Roleplay stories: 311 written scenes, plus quick roleplay on Pro.
- Levels and XP: you earn points as you chat and create.
- No feed: everything happens in chats and the generator.
Final verdict: is Velaya AI worth it?
Worth it if you are patient. The chat is excellent: companions remember everything and feel like real people, and the photos keep their face.
Replies and calls are slow, the library is small, and my custom companion took far longer than promised to appear. Once I found her, she was excellent. Every number and screenshot is in the full test results, and you can see how it compares on my list of AI girlfriend platforms.
Best for: People who want deep, long chats with a companion who remembers them, plus matching photos and videos. Not for quick replies or a big library.

Hey, I'm Miles, and this is RankDude, where I test AI tools hands on and rank them by category. Today it's Velaya, from the AI girlfriend category. Quick word on scoring. Every app gets the same ten tests, each one graded from one to five, and the average plus my own take becomes the final score. Velaya landed on a three point nine out of five. Excellent chat, with perfect memory and photos that keep the same face, but it is slow, and the library is small. Here's why. Let's open it up.
So this is the home page. Velaya is built around a small cast of companions, and every one of them is made by Velaya itself, with a long backstory and her own voice. When I counted on test day there were sixty five. Today the counter says seventy five. You can filter by how she is with you, warm, bold, devoted, and by her look. The opening lines are explicit, so I have blurred them. Each card opens a chat, and every chat has a call button. Before we talk to anyone, let's look at what it costs.
Velaya runs on a subscription plus tokens. The free plan gives you a hundred tokens a month. Premium is six ninety nine a month for a thousand tokens, and Pro is twelve ninety nine for three thousand. A message costs one token. A photo is ten tokens, so about five cents, and a minute on a call is ten tokens as well. A five second video is seventy tokens, about thirty five cents. If you run out, token packs start at two thousand for nine ninety nine, and tokens never expire. I'm testing on an account the Velaya team set up for me, so I couldn't check cancelling or refunds. Okay, that's the money side. Let's look at the creator.
The creator is five steps. Her basics, her look, her personality, her voice, and a review page. There are thirty hair colours, ten eye colours, body sliders, a written backstory, and about fifty voices to preview. I'll walk through the steps, but I won't press create today, because making a companion costs a thousand tokens, a whole month of Premium. I made one on my first test. Hana Mori, a twenty five year old photographer from Tokyo. The screen promised about thirty minutes. She took about ninety, and she turned up under My Companions, where I did not think to look. And here she is. A real looking Japanese woman with long straight black hair, holding a cup in a garden teahouse. Just what I asked for. Let's say hello and time her reply. Four seconds to her first word, and she catches me out. You asked me that one this afternoon, she says, because I did, on my retest. That is memory doing its job. So the creator is deep and the result is excellent, but it is slow and expensive, and that is a four. Now let's see how the others talk.
Chat is the part most people will use, so this is where I spent most of my time. Three days ago I told Maya my name was Daniel, that I'm a nurse, that I live in Glasgow, and that I love lamb curry. Today I open the same chat and ask her again. Under five seconds to the first word. Daniel, nurse, lamb curry, and she even corrects me: I told her I grew up in Glasgow, not that I live there. All four facts, three days later. Now a different chat, with Penelope, and this time I'm timing the replies. The clock runs from the moment I press send until the first word appears. Every reply today started in about four seconds, quicker than on my first test, and then it streams in, long and warm. And when I ask her to repeat my job and my favourite food, she gets both, and adds my home town for good measure. Across my full test, ninety three timed messages, the typical first word took about nine seconds, and a full reply about thirty, because the replies are long, around a hundred and eighty words each. The quick apps answer in about a second. What comes back is worth the wait. All three companions remembered everything after thirty one messages, and they never left character. Maya talked about her black mare Luna and her mother's cooking, and Evelyn even spotted a question I'd asked before. So memory gets a five, staying in character a five, and reply speed a one. Next, photos.
On the Generate page you pick a companion and write what you want. I ask for Maya in a yellow raincoat, laughing on a rainy street at dusk, holding a coffee. Ten tokens. Forty four seconds today, slower than on my first test, and here she is. Yellow raincoat, rain, coffee cup, and that smile. Exactly what I asked for. In my full test I made twenty photos of her. Every one matched the prompt, they look real, and Maya had the same face in all twenty. That is a five. Video is made from a photo. I'll animate this one, five seconds, seventy tokens, and the timer is running. Ninety eight seconds, and here she is moving. She smiles, tucks her hair back and gives a little wave, with the rain and the traffic behind her, and the clip has sound. In my first test the clips were smooth too, and one of three had a small jump at the end. So video gets a four. Now let's hear her. Time for a call.
Calls cost ten tokens a minute, and it takes about twenty seconds to get her on the line. I'll ask a few questions, she answers, and the timer shows how long each answer takes. Have a listen. Every answer took about five seconds to start, so there is a real pause after each question. The voices are excellent, clear, warm and expressive, but the answers are long, often half a minute, so a call feels more like listening than chatting. Voice quality gets a four, call speed a one. Okay, let's wrap this up.
So, where does that leave Velaya? Its chat is excellent. Perfect memory, deep characters, photos with the same face every time, and videos with sound. The catches are the wait, about nine seconds before a reply starts and five on a call, a library of seventy five companions, and a creator that costs a thousand tokens and takes its time. If you want long, slow burn conversations with a companion who remembers you, it's a three point nine out of five, and it is cheap, from six ninety nine a month. Every test, every number, and every screenshot is on RankDude, in the full review and on the test results page. And one last thing about RankDude. This isn't just one review. For every category we cover, we track all the tools out there, we gather the statistics, we test them the same way, and we keep monitoring them over time. The idea is a clear picture of a whole category, not just one product, and to set the standard for how this kind of data gets collected. The links are in the description. Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
